So I am running Apple TV 4K into this:

https://www.lg.com/us/home-video/lg-hu810pw-4k-laser-projector

just arrived and it is LEGIT… not amazing in bright room but WOW and so many features.

and wanting to run 4.1 with this setup:

  • Sonance in-wall (front)
  • Sonance in-ceiling (rear)
  • Sonos Sub

I have the Sonance installed and am waiting on my Amps to ship (October).

My understanding from reading the forums here is that I will run one HDMI eARC cable (Zeskit Maya 8K 48Gbps Certified Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable 1.5ft, 4K120 8K60 144Hz eARC HDR HDCP 2.2 2.3 Compatible with Dolby Vision Apple TV 4K Roku Sony LG Samsung Xbox Series X RTX 3080 PS4 PS5 https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B08TRGKKR3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_GR8XJM0ZXQK8D836QWFK?psc=1) from projector eARC out to Amp for front speakers, then set up other amp + Sub in some sort of “surround group”? Think will it work?

Yes, it will work. The projector will connect from the eARC port to the HDMI ARC port of the Amp connected to the front speakers. Then in the Sonos app, under the Amp settings, you will add the Sub and set up the surrounds (second Amp):

I’ve just read so many posts (many of them admittedly dated) about people trying to get Projectors + Sonos into a surround setup, and my takeaways are that it wasn’t designed for this… BUT my hope is that with this (not first, but maybe best) of its kind projector with eARC out, that I can do it!

one follow-on: will I be able to get Atmos?

No, the only Sonos speaker that supports Dolby Atmos is the Sonos Arc. The best audio you will get with the two-Amp 4.1 setup is Dolby Digital.

Probably too late to mention this, however...

You mentioned that you are using Sonance In-Wall/In-Ceiling Speakers and not Sonos In-wall/In-ceiling  Speakers by Sonance. There is a difference.

Assuming you are using Sonos Amp x 2 ….TruePlay Tuning is not available with Direct from Sonance In-Wall/In-Ceiling  speakers.

3x Amps arrived, and I am appy to report the above setup is working - the projector is amazing for the price, and yes it is the “Sonos by sonance” and auto-tuning worked great.

@GuitarSuperstar are you sure I cannot get Atmos through the Amp - I’m pretty sure the signal from AppleTV 4K to projector to Amp is getting sent with Atmos. Amp cannot decode it?

Excuse me for stepping in @GuitarSuperstar and @HoustonNate 🙂

You would need an Amp capable of not only decoding Dolby Atmos (simply put) but an Amp capable of wiring separately Left/Center/Right channels, rear surrounds with front and upward firing speakers as well as reflective speakers properly spaced in the room or a variation. Oh… did I mention a sub.

Alternatively, you could have employed and Arc and still used a Sonos Amp to drive the rear in-ceiling speakers as surrounds. The trick is to get sound to the Arc via HDMI unnoticed.

There is a link in the post below that outlines Dolby Atmos setup when using wired speakers.

Thanks again! I decided to not go with the Arc primarily because it doesn’t make sense to put it above a projector acreen
