Connect Play 5 to Port (source = turntable)

I have a Play 5 that I want to connect to my Port (via RCA cable) which is connected to a turntable as the source. Doing so I hear no output from the Play 5 speaker.  Do I need to connect an amplifier between the Port and the Play 5? I am trying to find a use for my Play 5 since it is an older model and not compatible with the newer equipment I have. The Port correctly broadcasts to my other Sonos speakers in the house. I thought I could hardwire the Play 5 and use it as well.  No?

You need to connect to the Play:5 with the S1 app, then turn on Autoplay in the settings for the Play:5 Line-In.  After that, connect the Port Line-Out to the Play:5 Line-In using an RCA to stereo 3.5 mm cable.  Then, any output from the Port will play on the Play:5.

The Play:5 has an Aux line-in input but no output. Or am I missing something-reading your question?

Also, the PLAY:5 is expecting a line level input. If your turntable doesn’t include a pre-amp that you’ve turned on, you’ll need to supply an external one. Most amplifiers have one built in, it’s why they have special ‘phono’ inputs, but you can purchase inexpensive small versions almost anywhere, without buying a full amplifier.

I have it working now as I believe it should.  Thank you for the suggestions which I tried to follow.  The Sonos apps (to me anyway) are somewhat convoluted and dealing with both the new and the old app was a bit confusing so I’m not quite sure what finally worked but now the hardwired Play 5 plays wonderfully when the turntable is turned on.  I did notice that if I try to use the Play 5 along with other Sonos speakers in the house that the audio is out of sync. Not a problem though. I can just turn off the Play 5 if I want to have records play in other areas.

Yes, the audio is out of sync because the Line-In must be buffered in real time in order to stream it digitally.  That is normal.
