Sonos Play 5

Hi folks,

ive brought a new place and the previous owner left 2x Sonos play:5 speakers. I’m trying to reset them but there is no ‘play’ button on the top of them or ‘join’ button on the back. 
what can I do??

Hold the ‘mute’ button instead when powering back on.

If it s a Gen 1 you will need to use the “Sonos S1” app to get them working.


You good folk saved me a lot if frustration there…..I thank you!……I need to get an Ethernet cable to finish set up……But there is hope on the horizon!

Amazon Basics cables are more than good enough, don't spend $50 on something fancy. This or something similar if the junk drawer doesn't have one.

FYI, as those speakers are Play 5 (Gen1) you will not be able to expand the system with any NEW Sonos hardware. 

Only products listed in the last two subheadings in the link will work with the speakers you have. Those products shown are discontinued and can only be found in situations like yours or on a used market site (eg. eBay).
