Question

Sonos ARC compatable with TV remote

Hi, I was hoping you could help me with an issue.

I have the latest Sonos soundbar connected to my TCL TV via an HDMI cable. It’s plugged into the correct HDMI eARC/ARC port, and I’ve enabled all the necessary settings on the TV so that the soundbar should be controllable with the TV remote.

The problem is that I can currently only control the soundbar using the Sonos app on my phone or the IR remote that came with my set-top box. However, I’m no longer using the set-top box because I’ve switched to watching TV directly through the TV’s built-in tuner, so I won’t have that remote anymore.

I also have the original TCL RF remote, which should be able to control the soundbar, but for some reason I can’t get it to work. The soundbar doesn’t respond to it at all, even though everything suggests it should.

I’d really appreciate any advice on how to remove the old remote from the soundbar (it doesn’t even appear in the TV settings anymore) and how to pair or add the new one. At the moment, the soundbar doesn’t seem to detect the new remote or respond to it in any way.

Thanks so much for any help!

If you unplug the HDMI cable from the Arc does the TLC remote control the TV volume?  If it does try plugging the HDMI cable back in and see if the TLC remote now controls the Arc volume.

The Arc soundbar volume can be controlled via the eARC port if CEC (is it called something different on TCL?) is active and working. Other than that, the soundbar can only use/learn IR remotes (not RF). So your options for controlling volume are Sonos app, CEC via TV eArc port, or IR remote.

You could try running through the TV Setup option again, to see if that gets it working with TV volume changes. Settings → your Arc room → scroll down to “TV Setup”

In addition to the above suggestions, I’d want to reboot both the Arc, and the TV set, to force them both to reload their respective firmware. Check and apply any updates in both of them, then unplug them from the wall for two minutes. Plug in the TCL first, wait two minutes, then plug in the Arc.

Don’t use a ‘remote’ or button command, you must unplug them for this to work.
