Can anyone recommend a system that just ‘works’ ? I’m sort of done with Sonos now! I get everything working and then it loses speakers, I’ve lost patience, I can’t do it anymore, for the few days that it works. I need a system that when you invite your friends around, just works!

See it this helps:

Products missing from the Sonos app

If not and you want to get your system working properly, I can recommend Sonos support:

Try submitting a diagnostic (Submit Diagnostics) within 10 minutes of getting an error. Then call Sonos Support (Sonos Support) to discuss it. They may be able to see what’s going on since they have access to information about your network and sonos system that no one here has. Don’t post the diagnostic number here.

But if you are “done” with Sonos, I don’t have anything else to recommend.

I’d recommend Sonos. Given an appropriate network, it does ‘just work’, but any network connected device will ball when what it is connected to isn’t set up properly.

Otherwise, I’d go with an old style receiver with wire connected speakers, that isn’t internet connected, and can’t stream sources, only play AM/FM and wired devices.

With the old style receiver you could add an external ”box” that can receive streaming music. As streaming standards mutate the “box” can be changed without replacing the existing system.

I’ve been using SONOS since 2005. If it had been a struggle, I wouldn’t be here. Early on I did need to learn a few things about networking. One cannot assume that a network is “perfect” if one can successfully browse websites. A SONOS system requires that the units be able to chat with each other. Some router defaults are setup to prevent this. Some routers need to be replaced.

SONOS phone support can guide you. If you do not want to continue with SONOS there is an active used market for your equipment. You should only purchase items that do not include a network connection because the details of network supported features are constantly changing, We tend to think of audio equipment as “buy once, use forever”.  Unfortunately, many of the heavily demanded modern features have a relatively short “forever” because the feature details are constantly changing or 3rd party companies providing the features go out of business

If you consider other brands be sure to check out their long-term support policies and compatibility across different versions. Many brands will leave your current setup behind in just a few years, Sonos support goes back 20 plus years so far.

The post title is quite general, so it’s difficult to tell what specific Sonos issue is being discussed. Adding the exact problem, affected device or speaker model, and any error message would make it much easier for others to suggest a useful solution.
