Sonos 5 audio quality with Indonesian streaming app — best settings for consistent performance?

Hi everyone,
I recently started testing a streaming app that’s popular in Indonesia with my Sonos 5 speakers. While playback generally works great, I’ve noticed some variability in audio consistency when switching between different types of content (e.g., live streams vs. VOD).

I’m curious about how others optimize Sonos settings for apps that rely on cloud streaming. Specifically:

  • Are there recommended EQ or sound settings on the Sonos 5 that improve clarity and balance across different genres and streaming conditions?

  • Does the streaming bitrate or network variability noticeably affect performance on Sonos devices, and if so, how do you compensate?

  • Any tips for Sonos app vs. third-party integration scenarios — especially with non-global streaming services?

Thanks in advance — appreciate any insights from those familiar with Sonos networking and app-based streaming playback!

  1. No, it depends on your ears, and what you listen to, none of the settings would impact performance.
  2. It’s possible, the connection to your speakers could be affected by wifi interference . Best practice tends to be to assign reserved IP addresses, and have a clean network. Often, you can get suggestions by calling Sonos Support to discuss it.
  3. Any tips would be the same for any apps. Sonos is a digital device, it receives digital data, so any third party apps would be agnostic to location. The key is the data, which suggests a clean network connection.

As a slight additional note, there is no Sonos 5 speaker. Sonos has, in the past, made a PLAY:5 of two generations, and currently makes and sells a Sonos Five. Distinct speakers.

As the app has nothing to do with the sound, similar to the remote control on your TV, it can't be at fault for sound issues.

It can be at fault for selection or setting issues.

As long as your local network and Internet connection have enough available bandwidth it will not be an issue. If they fall short there will be dropouts, not distortion.
