how to add/play wav files on sonos, using ipad.
Are these files stored on an iPad, or are you just using the iPad to set up your Sonos to point at where the files are stored. Two very different things.
Apple closed the ability to store music data on the iPad and allow Sonos to access it. However, depending on your Sonos devices, you can play them using a music player of your choice (not Sonos, but something like Apple Music) and then send the iPads output to the Sonos via AirPlay 2.
Alternately, you could use the controller on the iPad to point to where your musiclives, not on a mobile device, by following the data in this FAQ.

I purchased the albums on a usb card, I have managed to transfer a file to downloads on my Ipad, which I can now play on Sonos, my next challenge is to try and play as albums instead of single tracks/files.

That’s likely a challenge for your music playing software. Sonos doesn’t deal with anything at the other end other than AirPlay 2.
Almost any audio editor will allow you to create a file from multiple other files, usually lets you add silent space betwen the included files too. Don't know Apple options but a search should find several options.
If you just want to play the individual tracks, in order like a record, then all you need to do is adjust the tags so Sonos sees them as an album. Not sure wave supports tags so you might have to convert to a format that does.
I would suggest you convert the WAV files to FLAC files using a converter program for Mac or Windows. After the conversion is complete import them into Apple Music (iTunes) as separate tracks or playlists. FLAC shrinks the large size of a WAV file by about half while keeping the exact same audio quality.
The above process will allow you to play the tracks through Apple Music as a service on Sonos via your iPad.
Be sure not to exceed a CD quality sampling rate of 44.1 kHz during the conversion process.

WAV supports tags. Most of my music is WAV rips. On rare occasions a WAV file will not support the Album Cover & Album Artist tags. Very rare. When I had those rare WAV files I converted them to FLAC.
