Hello everyone,

I have a Sonos Beam (1st generation) and a Sonos Sub, grouped under the name “Living Room” and connected to my network via an RJ45 cable. I’ve been using this system with an Apple TV for years to watch TV. I also bought this system to listen to music at home, particularly via Apple Music, but AirPlay has never worked. I have to use the Music app on the Apple TV, which means turning on the TV, or use the Sonos app on my iPhone or iPad.

I’d really like to find a solution so I can finally listen to music easily via AirPlay.

Thanks!

You say “grouped” but the correct Sonos lingo for combining a Sub to a soundbar is “bonding”.

You state “ AirPlay has never worked”. Can you elaborate on this? This could be network related, but since you do not say anything about your network (components, how did you connect your Beam to it) it is very hard say anything to help you.

Furthermore - why the insistence on AirPlay, that makes the music stream take a detour via your mobile phone or the Apple TV. Why not ad Apple Music to the Sonos app? This way the Sonos devices will fetch the stream themselves.

If the Beam is wired to your router via Ethernet you may have turned off the WiFi option for the Beam. Since AirPlay piggybacks on your WiFi it has no connection to your Beam.

Furthermore, why not place your system on WiFi instead of Ethernet?
