I burned a new album to my music library. I played it several times on that day. The next day, I went to play it from my Windows Sonos app. The app said it had updates. I applied them. With the same playlist on the same speakers as the day before, I went to replay the album. It failed with

Couldn’t play <music library file>.flac. Try again.

I rescanned my music library. That did not help. I tried again and again. That did not help. I waited for a couple of hours and I could start to play the album. I stopped midway through the first song.

Today (two days later) I retried playing that same album on different speakers. I get the same error. I tried other speakers, even the original ones, and I still get the same error again and again.

The only thing that has changed in my system was the Sonos update. Did Sonos break my music library again? Apparently so.

Am I the only one?

update:

I tried replaying the two prior albums from my recently played history. They started to play fine. I then tried replying the new album from my recently played history. It is playing now. What is going on?

Seems odd. The next time it doesn’t play, I’d submit a system diagnostic within 10 minutes, and call Sonos Support to discuss it. Don’t post the resulting diagnostic number here.

There may be information included in the diagnostic that will help Sonos pinpoint the issue and help you find a solution.

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

With the data given, I’d guess a communication error between the speaker and where the data is stored, but without the ‘real’ error in those log files, it’s hard to tell, given the lack of details in your post.

Probably an issue with the update and your local network. Just what is went wrong usually hard to determine but the most likely to work cure is to shutdown all Sonos, reboot the router and controller then power the Sonos back up.

If it keeps happening some folks see setting DHCP reserved addresses for all Sonos work to avoid the issue. Some folks are hotly opposed to doing that and object to it even being offered as an option. Sonos themselves offer it as a possible solution. Either way it is easy to try, and easy to remove, so there is no real downside to trying it.
