connecting turntable to surround system

Hi everyone,

Apologies if this has been answered somewhere already. I’ve read a bunch of related posts and feel like I’m still not sure if what I’m hoping for is possible (or if my idea is the best solution).

I have an existing surround sound setup with my tv - Beam connected to tv via HDMI cable, which is then grouped to two Era 100s. I am hoping to add my turntable (with built-in phono preamp) into the mix to play out of those 3 speakers (and a separate Sonos One in my bedroom) without adding any more speakers.

It seems like that should be possible by connecting a Port to the turntable. But will I be able to use the Beam and 2 Era 100s for both listening to music on the turntable, and for watching tv (not at the same time)?

Some posts have brought up latency issues/tv audio no longer lining up with the picture. But will that happen if the tv isn’t connected to Port, though the Beam and Era 100s would be?

Can I even pull off this setup, essentially having two separate sources (the tv and turntable) trying to use the same speakers (though again, not at the same time)?

Or does anyone have a better/easier way to connect my turntable to my 3 existing speakers/surround setup?

Thanks in advance for your help!

The Port is an option if you are completely opposed to adding another speaker, aside from the price it is an excellent option. However adding a speaker with a line-in option will also connect your turntable and at a lower price.

Port or speaker's line-in, sound will play perfectly from any or all your Sonos. You don't even have to have the speaker with the line-in playing as you can select it's line-in as an input from other speakers.

I'd lean to another Era-100 or the 100 SL or a Play and the Sonos Line-In adapter. I Wouldn't say no to an Era-300 if I had a space that worked for one.

100 SL $189 - https://www.sonos.com/en-us/shop/era-100-sl

Line in adapter $19 - https://www.sonos.com/en-us/shop/sonos-line-in-adapter-white

If your 100s are Grouped (two Rooms) it sounds like they aren't but are Bonded (single Room) then you can do this without altering your setup. If you have a single Home Theater Room (Beam and surrounds) you can test how this works by ordering the adaptor and removing your surrounds from the Beam so their input becomes active.

Edit for clarity.

I’m just responding to what you posted in that you have a Beam “grouped” to Two Era 100’s which are a stereo pair. That senario means the Era 100’s are not being used as “Bonded” surrounds to the Beam.

So unless you want to revise your post regarding how the Era 100’s are configured with the Beam all you need do is connect your turntable to the Era 100’s via the Sonos proprietary line-in adapter.

If the Era 100’s are being used as surrounds then you can’t connect your turntable to them.
