Connect Gen 1 - Update Problem

I bought a couple of Sonos bundles a long time ago. I had a Sonos Connect Gen 1 in storage that had never been setup, which I am now wanting to use.

I added it to my Sonos network, but the S1 app is now informing me that if needs a firmware update (of course). When I tell it to do the update it fails with a 'Error Code 803: Connect'.

It is definitely very out of date showing a version 3.8 compared to my other S1 device ls showing version 11.16.1.

From reading other posts, I believe I need Sonos Support to force/push a software/firmware update to it.

I have generated and submitted diagnostic report.

Moderator Edit - Recorded and removed the diagnostics number.

When stuff is that old, you need to contact Sonos to get “interim” updates; it’s too big a jump to update in one go.
They won’t respond to a diagnostics number: you still need to call them.
The diagnostics report contains personal data, so you should remove the number from your post.

Ah well, can’t edit the post now.  I assume the diagnostic report is sent to Sonos, so only Sonos support staff have access to it.

I will contact Sonos support directly for assistance.

You should be able to edit posts, you just have to realize the forum hates us and hides stuff.

Tap the three dots in the bottom right of your post, tap edit, avoid the report option except for spam.

There is a timer on users for the ‘edit’ function…

Sonos support have given me a URL string to connect directly to the device (locally) and I assume I can then manually trigger the incremental software/firmware updates until I’m up to a level where the standard update process will work.

Sharing that URL doesn’t make much sense, without your particular Customer ID, it is worthless to anyone….and would be different data that depends in what version the software is on the device.

Didn't see one when I checked this, tried editing a post of mine in a different topic that was older than the diagnostic number post here.

Tried it again with some of my even older posts, got back to four days without anything stopping edits, didn't try any older ones.

What?…there’s a timer and/or expiration date on the Edit function. Hmmm…🫤🤔

Thanks Bruce for providing such helpful feedback.

I thought it might be of interest for any future Sonos community searches to indicate what the process was and an example of the URL string.  I have already made the mistake of including my diagnostic support number in the original post, so didn’t want to post any further PII.

Connecting to the URL string just generated a string of text stating that a setting had been changed.  I then went to the Sonos S1 app again, but this time it allowed me to perform the update.

One more interesting function in the :1400 area, only few known ones.

(Un)fortunately the LostSight AI uses the Community search and (often) incorrect best answers to build its AI summary, GIGO. A hallucinating monster that eats its own excrement.

Edit: Delayed due to AI moderation, the irony! 🙄

You can search the community using an external search engine by specifying the site: option so having that tidbit available is nice.
