I have 5 older Sonos speakers, all require being plugged in, If I want to add speakers can I buy the newer wireless and will they all be able to be grouped together and played at the same time? Thank you!

Not all, no. At least I think the latest are, but many of the earlier Bluetooth accepting speakers can’t be ‘grouped’ on WiFi, when using a Bluetooth input . Do you have specific speakers in mind? Hard to answer generic questions, when it isn’t a simple yes or no.

Why Bluetooth instead of the usual WiFi connection?

I have multiple Bluetooth capabile Sonos but run all on my WiFi as I really prefer the control and capabilities that gives me over Bluetooth

Your post says you have “older Sonos speakers”. Are you running S1 or S2? If you can run S2, you can add any “newer wireless” speaker to your system.

S2 compatible speakers are listed here: https://support.sonos.com/en-us/article/sonos-app-version-compatibility
