Sonos One + Alexa: Follow-Up Mode suddenly enabled, can’t turn it off

Hi everyone,
for the past couple of months I’ve been experiencing a strange issue with my Sonos One with Alexa built in. It looks like Alexa has automatically enabled Follow-Up Mode (the mode where, after a command, it chimes again and keeps listening without saying the wake word).
The problem is that there is no option to enable or disable Follow-Up Mode on the Sonos One, and I never turned it on.

This is what happens:
after giving any command, Alexa plays the chime again and stays in listening mode, as if waiting for a second command.

I’ve tried everything:
• Factory reset of the Sonos One
• Resetting the Alexa app
• Removing and re-adding the device
• Various reboots, network resets, etc.

Nothing worked.

Has anyone experienced this or knows how to fix it?
It’s getting really annoying because it keeps listening after every command.

Thanks!

Hi @alsz87

Welcome to the Sonos Community!

Sorry to hear about this issue you are having with follow-up mode being activated for Alexa on your Sonos One speaker.

@Airgetlam is correct - the relevant setting is in the Alexa app: Menu » Settings » Voice Responses » Follow-Up Mode » Enable/Disable (off/on) for each listed device.

I hope this helps.

This is more likely a setting / issue in the Alexa app, and has little to do with the Sonos. You may want to contact Amazon’s CS as well, all the Sonos is doing is recognizing your wake word, and passing your voice to Amazon’s server, then responding to what those servers send back.

Thanks for the anawers. The option to disabile follow up mode appeared ONLY if I set Alexa’s language to English, I was using another language and the option was not there. Then I set Alexa back to the desired language

Hi @alsz87

That is quite strange, but also not something that we, Sonos, can address. Thanks for updating the thread, however, as someone may well find that very helpful to know (including me, for the next person who asks).
