Sonos and echo dot

I am using Alexa on an echo dot and it plays music through my Sonos One gen2. Is the echo device superfluous here? Which device is actually converting the digital music stream to analogue (I presume that the Sonos has the superior DAC). Thanks.

The music audio is streamed direct from the MSP to the Sonos device that’s assuming you’re using the Sonos skill. The only reason for having the Dot is that it has other functionality that’s not available on a 3rd party Alexa enabled device - ‘drop-in’ is one example - and some skills may only be available on Amazon echo devices.

For music playback/control though, the built in Alexa on the Sonos One is fine and you could perhaps utilise the Dot elsewhere in the Home.
