Sonos Alexa

I have a Sonos beam and a Sonos Arc. It's been pretty useless lately. Sure it plays music, and integrates with Sirius XM. But when I ask it things like what football games are playing today? Or what is the score of this particular football game? It just gives me answers from last year and then I asked what games are playing today and it says there are no games playing today. This used to work fine..

Did you complain to Amazon?

Would it be Amazon's problem or would it be Sonos problem? It works on all my other Amazon devices.

That might be worth a call to Sonos support, make them aware of the issue even if they can't directly fix it.

All Sonos does is send your voice to Amazon, and then responds with what they are handed back. In fact, if you had installed Google, it works the same way. The only voice assistant Sonos processes on its own is the Sonos Voice Assistant.

Sonos doesn’t do anything processing wise other than ‘hearing’ the wake word, and sending the following data to the respective servers for processing.

Do you have an Arc? Or a Beam?

All it what the University of Michigan football score was yesterday. Or insert your team of choice. Then ask an Echo device the same thing.

Who gives you an answer?

I suspect the ‘real’ difference here is between a ‘Alexa enabled device’ from a third party (Sonos, in this case) and a first party device like an Echo Dot, or other Amazon device. Certain things are reserved for first party devices, not everything is extended to third party devices, like Sonos.

Well, it has worked for years. Never had a problem until a couple months ago. I'm beginning to think it's when Amazon went fully to Alexa+.

I hate to call support, because.... It's support... Sigh, but I may crawl down that hole. Ugh.

I think you are expecting too much from Alexa voice control. It’s not an Alexa device and doesn’t respond like one. Here’s what it supposed to be able to do:

Control Sonos with Amazon Alexa

And the amazon sonos skills info: https://www.amazon.com/Sonos-Inc/dp/B072ML3N6K

It’s possible that Amazon has messed things up with Alexa+.

Understand…but all Sonos does is pass off the request to an Amazon server. Ultimately, you might be better served by contacting Amazon. They likely have more ‘control’ over the situation, but if, as you suggest, it is a function of the change to ‘Alexa plus’, you may not end up with the resolution you want. Unfortunately, it is still out of Sonos’ control.
