I have a very odd situation that recently developed.  When I make a request via Alexia on Sonos to a Spotify play list, it will sometimes connect and sometimes it will not (i.e., nothing happens).

If I ask for my previous playlist, it will consistently connect, and then I can then connect to a new playlist request upon a second Alexa request.

Any suggestions?

Hi @meyerschicago, welcome to the Sonos Community!

I’m sorry to hear you’re having trouble with Alexa. If it’s happening intermittently, then it could be that Alexa isn’t hearing you correctly. I would suggest checking the microphone on your speaker is free from any debris and clean it following the guidelines from our article on cleaning Sonos products. You can also check your voice command history for Alexa on your Amazon account, which I would recommend doing after Alexa doesn’t play what you request to see what it heard in the command.

As a test, and if you can, try moving the speaker to a different location to see if that helps. If not, then I’d recommend submitting a diagnostics within ten minutes of the issue occurring and then reaching out to our support team for further troubleshooting assistance.

I hope this helps!

Hi Jamie,

Thanks for the reply! It definitely isn’t the microphone, as Alexa will process other commands unrelated to Sonos correctly. It also worked properly for years before. This odd problem only started about a month ago.

It’s strange that, while other commands work fine, asking it to play your playlists will not work some of the time; usually with these types of issues it’s all or nothing, or you’d at least notice the same with other voice commands.

I would still recommend the diagnostics and contacting support once it happens, but you could also try removing and re-adding the Sonos skill in the Alexa app to see if that helps.
