Would someone know if I could play/control music on Play1 using the new Amazon Echo Input ?

+22The input is basically an Echo Dot with no built in speaker - so all audio goes via the 3.5mm cable to speaker.
You can use Amazon Echo input to voice control the Play:1 but you can't hook the Input up to the Play:1 to play audio from as the Play:1 has no input.
So if you speak to an Echo input with it not plugged into speaker - it will give you no voice response etc.
The better option for voice control of the Play:1 would be an Echo Dot - as it has built in speaker to be able to respond to you as well.
