Question

No Alexa 'Broadcast' on Sonos Play?

Love my new Sonos Play’s, and Alexa seems to working properly, except for one feature we love and miss in our household...

All previous Sonos units support a whole-home intercom feature Amazon calls ‘Make Announcements with Alexa’ that we can trigger by saying
“Alexa, broadcast: _____”

But Play alone seems to not support this very useful feature -- any plan to support it?

I wonder if it needs to be added to something on an Alexa server, rather than a change to Sonos? Essentially, it’s hard for me to conceive of Sonos handling it any different than a request from any other device, but they certainly may be required to pass the device ID in the request. Have you asked Amazon, as well?

Clip playback, which is the underlying api for this, is only available on some devices (for some reason). Maybe someone forgot to set the flag on the new Play? Sounds like a simple firmware fix.

@fbglima

In the past it often took some time before Amazon realized full support for new Sonos speakers. I think they still have to put Sonos Play on the list for announcements.
I spoke to Sonos support about two month ago and they are aware of the issue.
