If you haven't used Alexa+ and if you are a little anti AI, that probably doesn't seem important to you.

However, it is a ridiculous improvement in functionality once you have it.

Sonos speakers with Alexa integration feel antiquated now.

AI is a great tool but people are becoming a little too dependent on it for things we as humans should be figuring out ourselves.

I just want my speakers to play music. I don’t need to have conversations with them.

I want to listen to my speakers  not have them listen to me!

Best Sonos feature (since adding the mikes anyway) ever is the mike disable switch.

It's a legit question.  Personally, I turned Alexa+ off because for what I want/need out of an assistant, it's not worth it.  But some people want it and asking for it on Sonos isn't a fringe request.

Unfortunately, I think it’s up to Amazon, and not Sonos, to work on this. As far as I know, Sonos merely recognizes the ‘wake’ word, and passes the rest of the phrase to Amazon’s servers, who then process it and send back a valid command for Sonos to execute. Which means there is no ‘local’ processing, other than the wake word. And why Sonos Voice Control makes a big deal about not exposing your desires to a server, as it does locally process.

However, Amazon wants you to purchase their own equipment, and not use Sonos (they don’t make any money from a Sonos speaker purchase), so they’ve chosen this as a way to force you to do so.
