I did try searching here, but can’t find anyone asking the same question? - I currently have a Sonos 5.1 setup in my lounge (Beam / Sub Mini / 2x Ones) - I would like to be able to access my Music Library in the kitchen, but at present I don’t have another Sonos speaker, or want the hassle of taking one out of my 5.1 setup to use in the kitchen?

We do have a Echo Dot (Gen 5) in the kitchen - What I want to do is play music from my Music Library with the Echo Dot in the kitchen? - I don’t need voice commands to do so & happy to select music from my Music Library via the Sonos App

I can’t see a way to add the Echo Dot speaker via the Sonos App settings - Amazon Alexa App shows all the speakers in my Sonos 5.1 setup in it’s settings

I hope that makes sense & any help would be much appreciated … Paul

Instead of using Sonos, which I don't think will work, why not have your Echo access the music directly? The music is not Sonos proprietary but a simple SMB file share so there is no Sonos impediment to using it on other devices.

We use the same SMB share with several non-Sonos devices with no issues or conflicts.

Thank you @Stanley_4 that does sound promising - I understood that Alexa could not retrieve tracks from a Sonos Library, but if there’s a way to do it I’m all ears! - As I said before, I’m not worried about using voice control for Alexa to access my Sonos Library - Could you point me to wherever is best to find out how to do this?

Thank you … Paul 👍

Your Amazon user manual should be the starting point.

Key to remember is that it is not a "Sonos music library" it is an SMB network share.

The Sonos music library is a function within the Sonos that uses that share. Think of it as two table lamps, both plugging into power sockets, either or both can pull power with no interaction with the other.

I don't use echo devices but a quick look suggests you have to add a "skill" to play local music.

Maybe this one?

https://www.amazon.com/bizmodeller-My-Media/dp/B06XPP135L

Description

My Media for Alexa lets you voice control and stream music from your home media collection to your Amazon Echo or Amazon Dot device.

To get started, visit https://www.mymediaskill.com and click the Download link to install the My Media for Alexa app on the computer that contains your home media library or iTunes library.

Once installed, you will be asked to enter your Amazon credentials to link My Media with Amazon. Once you have done this, simply select the folders on your computer that contain your music collection, or alternatively select your whole iTunes library.

Now just ask Alexa to play your music, for example:

"Alexa, ask My Media to play music by Michael Jackson"
