Apple Music works from Sonos app but not from Alexa

Until recently I regularly used my Amazon Echo Dot (Alexa device) to start playing music from Apple Music on my Sonos speakers using the Alexa Sonos skill. Recently it stopped working--either nothing plays or Alexa gives some “I can’t do that” error. If I have the Sonos app open on my phone while this failure is happening, I can tell my request to Alexa has succeeded in part because I see a stream of messages like this in the app:

In the Sonos app I can search for something and pick a match from Apple Music and successfully play the matching track. All of this implies to me that there’s neither a networking problem nor a problem with my Sonos system’s connection to Apple Music. (I did the “reauthorize” operation just in case; it didn’t help.)

Any ideas?

As reported in that Reddit thread, the problem (which had been acknowledged by Amazon) seems fixed as of today.

Same issue for the last few days… i see in the app that it progresses through the tracks, not able to play any and showing the same error for each track, no matter which speaker I choose.

playing apple music on sonos works though. Or playing on Echo speakers also works. Finally, playing Amazon Music through voice commands on Sonos also works fine.

Only voice commands on Alexa to play Apple Music on Sonos fails.
i also did all the reconnecting of skills on Alexa then reauthorize Apple Music on Sonos etc. restart modem, router, change wifi… you name it.

Everyone in the family extremely irritated and point finger to me as the chief tech officer.

I have the same issue :(

Same! Driving me nuts… I’ve messed about with my wifi, mesh, dns, removed all voice assistants, removed Apple Music from the Sonos app, removed everything from the Amazon devices page, rebooted every bit of hardware (mesh, router, sonos), tried google assistant instead of Alexa, nothing works! Apple streams fine from my phone and via airplay. It looks like something at Sonos’ side of the fence …. I can’t think of anything else!

Amazon Music streams fine

Exactly the same issue. Thought it was me, obviously not! Just commenting to confirm this is a problem at Sonos or Amazon or Apple’s end!

Same issue for us. Things go from bad to worse with Sonos

Exactly the same issue here, at least I’m not alone!

Tried all the usual unlink/relink Apple Music and Sonos skill within Alexa and unauthorised and reauthorised within the Sonos app but still not working.

As OP said; Apple Music works fine with my Echo speakers and Amazon Music fine with Sonos but not Apple Music and Sonos via Alexa.

Get it fixed Sonos!

Same problem here!

I hate to say it but I’m so glad it’s not just me. I’ve rebooted all Alexa devices, Sonos devices and a full reset on orbi. I hope this is fixed swiftly for everyone !

I contacted Sonos support and they confirmed it’s a known issue

Did they say what they are doing about it?

Very relevant question, whether they are doing anything about the issue they are well aware of. When I contacted Sonos support couple of months earlier on another matter (it was about the entire drama around Lossless), they said they were aware of the issue and had absolutely no plans of fixing it

Add my name to the list of unhappy Sonos customers regard the Apple Music issue. Like others I’ve tried all the suggested “fixes” nothing works.

Did the exact same thing as you all have done.  Bought a new updated orbi and I was thinking that is what screwed it up.  So glad to see the exact issue is not just me

Same here! Driving me nuts — I’ve reset wifi, removed voice assistants, rebooted everything, switched Alexa to Google, but nothing works. Apple Music streams fine via AirPlay or directly from the Sonos app. Feels like a Sonos issue. I’m out of fixes!

This is frustrating and I have the same issues, I was about to purchase some additional sonos products. Not now I am not. When will this be fixed I wonder.

Spent my day trying to fix this issue. I factory reset all device through the house and setup everything from scratch, delinked all account, relinked/reauthorised Alexa service, Apple Music, only to be left with the same issue. Really frustrated, such a bad user experience. Like others Apple Music can be accessed and played in app but the whole family uses Alexa to play music and getting the same error as stated by others.

I hope that Sonos will get this fixed a.s.a.p!

Yet Sonos have the nerve to have this on status.Sonos.com 😡

It just started working here now. I hope it lasts!

12 minutes later: well, it’s sort of working. Still saying it can’t find some songs and some of my playlists. So it’s not back to the way it was yet.

It’s working for me now.

Appears to be working ok for me now. Not sure how but it is 🤷🏻‍♂️

And those Orbis aren’t cheap! I noticed orbi pushed me an update yesterday which fixed the issue of being able to login is admin on the orbi app but I doubt this was the issue with Sonos and Apple Music
