I would like to open up a survey about an issue I am experiencing.

  • I have a sonos Arc in one room with alexa and sonos voice control (SonosVC) enabled (sonos with microphone).
  • I have an echo dot in another room paired with a sonos playbar (sonos without microphone).
  • I have a subscription to apple music.
  • I have a group on the alexa app called home where both arc and playbar are grouped.

Asking Alexa to play on individual room works, from both device:

  • Alexa-Arc-->playbar→ sounds come from playbar
  • Alexa-Echo-->playbar→ sounds come from playbar
  • Alexa-Echo-->Arc→ sounds come from arc
  • Alexa-Arc-->Arc→ sounds come from arc

Asking Alexa to play on the “home” group only play audio from the device where the request was submitted, despite showing the the music playing on both device on the sonos app.

  • Alexa-Arc-->home → sounds come only from arc
  • Alexa-Echo-->home→ sounds come only from playbar

Asking sonos voice control (SonosVC) to play everywhere works.

  • SonosVC-Arc-->everywhere→ sounds come from both arc and playbar.

Asking sonos voice control (or do the same in the app) to play the same music started from a voice command coming from alexa won’t produce any sounds on the other sonos device:

  • Alexa-Arc→ play music on Arc-->sounds come from arc
SonosVC-Arc→ play the same music on playbar→ no sounds from playbar, BUT the app showing the grouping was achieved correctly
  • Alexa-Arc→ play music on Arc-->sounds come from arc
Group the arc to playbar in the app works, BUT sounds come only from the arc.

Is this a normal behaviour everybody experience ?

I tried to disable the echo dot and remove the playbar from amazon app.
All the above remained true.

The only command that worked was:

App→ manually grouped arc and playbar→ Alexa-Arc (play radio)→ sounds come from both*
Apple music still couldn't work.

I find this very odd, as alexa seems to perfectly work and send the right set of commands to the sonos app.

The diagnostic shows no issues according to sonos support.

I am baffled.

Please let me know if somebody have the same issue, or maybe has no issue using “spotify” ?

Thanks a lot.

Linking your previous thread on the topic for background.  I don’t have much to add as I stopped using Alexa for audio control once SVC came out.  I also don’t use Apple music or airplay.

I haven’t had any issues with grouping/ungrouping Sonos rooms via the Sonos app or via SVC.

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately the playbar has no microphone though, that's why the dot is so important.

Plus, how would control the lights ? SVC can only control the music.

Last, could you disclose which music service are you using ?

Thanks a lot.
