I set it up, I say, "Alexa play sonos"
response: "hmmm to do that, enable your sonos skill in your alexa app, after enabling skill just say Alexa discover devices"
The skill is enabled and I say "Alexa discover devices"
response: "I couldn't find any new smart home devices".....
Is this right?

Alexa won't play Sonos

Once you activate the skill in Alexa and ask it to discover devices it will discover all your Sonos zones.
You don't say Alexa Play Sonos ..... lets assume one of your zones is called Kitchen.
You would say something like "Alexa play Bruno Mars in Kitchen"
It will use the default music service you have setup in Sonos.
