Question

Alexa volume control with grouped speaker

I have a Sonos 1 grouped with a Play 5. When I ask Alexa to change the volume, the change only occurs on the Sonos 1 and not the play 5. Has anyone else experienced this behavior?

The voice control is at the room level of things. So if you want to turn up the volume on your PLAY:5, you can tell the Sonos One to turn it up in the name of that room. The grouping if for synced music playback, but it doesn't apply to volume.

It would be great if there was an option to change the group volume by voice like there is in the app (group or room).

Yup. Right now there is no extensive Amazon API or SDK for multi-room speaker control. They have only released their Connected Speaker API just last August. Coming early next year is their Multi-Room Music SDK that should address a bunch of issues with grouping of multi-room 3rd party speakers. Whether Sonos can or will utilize that new SDK remains to be seen.
