@fercho74

Did you try the other suggested solutions?

Yes, the toggling.  ANd togglign in the Amazon app did resolve the issue, as i stated above.

Im not going through 25 speakers and removing and re-adding Alexa.  Either Amazon and/or Sonos need to fix.  What we all did are bandaids.

Whoa…😰

You have 25 speakers all with Alexa enabled? That suggests you have 25 different rooms that require Alexa voice enablement.

I have 9 rooms that all together have 22 voice capable speakers. Emphasis on voice capable. However, only 1 speaker per room has Alexa enabled. So only 9 speakers have Alexa active.

Furthermore with electronics and software sometimes things go awry. The fix doesn’t always require a download of new software/firmware. Often times a reboot or in this case a disable and re-enable is the key. Those actions are acceptable industry standard practices and are not bandaids. If you don’t realize it … Sonos speakers are akin to computers which sometimes require the actions outlined in this thread.

I removed Alexa, restarted, readded Alexa and restarted again. The chime is gone altogether and Alexa is working as expected. I won’t bother reactivating the wake chime.

I went to the Sonos Arc in the Alexa app.  Under “Sound”, I disabled the “Start of Request” sound.  The “scratch sound” is gone, but the Wake Chime is still there.

So, it’s still not working quite right, but I like the Wake Chime, so this is good enough for me!

I removed Alexa and re-added her. Chime re-enabled without any scratching.

Same here. Removed Alexa and re added it. Took 2 minutes.

In case it helps anyone else, had this exact issue on my Sonos One and removing and then re-adding alexa worked to remove the digital scratch sound.

Identical problem, removing & re-adding alexa fixed it.

For the 2 minutes / speaker it takes, just do it.

This started happening on my Arc yesterday. Removed & reinstalled Alexa and the static sound disappeared.

Easy fix - thanks!

Same issue here on three separate Alexa enabled Sonos speakers (2 x Play One, and 1 x Arc). Do I need to disable and tenable voice individually on each speaker or do I need to do all at once?

I'm not sure if this will help anyone else, but I wanted to share a quick update regarding the audio issues. I just updated the Sonos app and reinstalled Alexa, and that awful noise is finally gone! 😀
Hopefully, this might be a solution if anyone else is experiencing the same problem.

Happened on my Move. Fixed by going in to the Sonos app, finding my move, then removing then re-adding alexa.

I fixed this by turning on wake sound in the Sonos app and turned off wake sound in the alexa app

The scratch sound after you hear the wake up chime (having said ‘alexa’) can affect any sonos install in any room. Delete the voice assistant and re-adding it will definitely the problem. It’s happened to my system twice - kitchen is two x era100, lounge is 2 x era 100 + beam + mini sub. The last occurrence ONLY affected the lounge system and not the kitchen system. Will talk to Sonos tomorrow - the chat bot is pretty quick and if it happens again, I’ll submit diagnostics. This is definitely not a wifi, reset or set up problem and needs fixing based on the content of this thread and the random manner in which it presents itself

I had the same issue on my Arc ultra so I removed Alexa from Sonos app and reconfigured it. Also while reconfiguring I changed the language from English (India) to English (United States) that effectively solved the issue.

Hi @spalmisano et al

Thanks for reporting this issue. I have been informed by a colleague that the following fix has been found (already mentioned by @loki980 above, but here are the full instructions):

Workaround:

  1. Open Alexa app.
  2. Choose the “Devices” tab.
  3. Choose the affected Sonos Player.
  4. In the “General” section. Select “Sound”
  5. Toggle off “Start of Request”

(Repeat steps 3-5 for each affected Sonos player)

I hope this helps.

As I mentioned above, this happened on two of my room setups on different dates and ONLY affected ONE room each time - Kitchen first, then lounge a week later. I found nothing worked other than DELETING the voice assistant and ADDING IT for the affected room group. Messing about with wake-up chimes/toggling stuff and the like didn’t get rid of the scratch, and in any case, disabling the wake-up chime then means you don’t actually know if ‘Alexa’ heard you..,until you say something else and get a response or not (which isn’t useful)

Hi @Andy Clune

The above was posted as a workaround, not a solution or fix. It was discovered by someone who could replicate the issue, so we shared it here. This will be an issue that we are still investigating, but as it is an annoying noise, we shared that workaround that we have found.

I’m glad to hear that you found a method that worked for you though - thanks for sharing yours!

You can also tell if Alexa heard you on a speaker by the status light getting brighter, should you be able to see it at the time.

I hope this helps.

Many Thanks - it would be interesting to understand root cause … managing and supporting robust integrations across multiple software products through multiple upgrades is usually a full-on challenge!!!!

All The Best,

Andy
