Alexa has been unable to see any Sonos devices starting last Sunday. My Android app is version 08.06.04. Also, the Sonos app lost its ability to see my Connect until I did a factory reset on the connect.
Hi
Welcome to the Sonos Community! And, apologies for the delay.
Sorry to hear of the issue you are having with Alexa on your Sonos system.
The simplest step you can take that frequently fixes this issue is to disable and then re-enable the Sonos skill from within the Alexa app: Alexa app » More » Skills & Games » Your Skills » Sonos » Disable, then Enable to Use.
If this does not work, please let me know - there are more involved methods.
I hope this helps.
Thanks. I did that several times. I also disabled the Sonos skill, deleted the Sonos devices from Alexa and un-installed the Alexa app and the Amazon shopping app. I restarted the phone before reinstalling Alexa. As soon as I enabled the Sonos skill Alexa found my 4 Sonos devices. But each one was listed as offline. Clicking on one shows "Device offline. Some settings may not be available." Voice commands did not work to play or pause music.
That lead to my posts on Sonos community. However a couple of days later I saw that Alexa now showed the devices status as online. Clicking on one still showed "Device offline. Some settings may not be available." But I tried voice commands and they worked.
So at the moment I can use Alexa to control my Sonos system even though Alexa says "Device offline. Some settings may not be available." I have disabled automatic updates in Sonos. Hopefully I will be able to continue using the system as is.
Hi
Understood. In that case, I recommend the following procedure:
- Remove Alexa from all Sonos speakers.
- Disable the Sonos skill for Alexa in the Alexa app.
- In the Alexa app, go to Devices and deregister all Sonos devices - make sure you get them all as any speaker that had Alexa installed will show up twice.
- Uninstall the Amazon shopping app, if installed on same device.
- Lets now reboot the device with Sonos and Alexa apps, just in case it will help (I’m not convinced this is needed, but now would be the time for it, so we may as well - it won’t hurt).
- Open the Sonos app and add Alexa to the Sonos speakers you want it on.
- When all done, reinstall Amazon Shopping app if it was uninstalled earlier.
I hope this helps, and that the instructions are adequate - please let me know if you’d like any step to be expanded into specific instructions for what to press (I didn't do so as it sounds like you’ve done most of it before and are fairly tech-savvy).
I’ve had issues with adding new devices to Alexa. At first the new device may show as offline then eventually show as online. After that they behave correctly. It’s as though it takes time for Alexa to accept a new member of the family. I don’t blame her. Raising kids these days costs too much.
