Why can Alexa toggle night mode on but not off?

Im trying to set up a scheduled routine so it till come on at 10pm and toggle off at 9am for my wife. Very frustrating given this is a premium product .

Hi @Guyo

Welcome back to the Sonos Community!

Thank you for flagging this behaviour - I and a colleague have both been able to reproduce it, as well as some other commands not working (TV off, Speech Enhancement on/off).

We will investigate, and I’ll let you know here once I know more.

Hi @Guyo

As it turns out, Alexa is not expected to be able to deactivate Night Sound/Night Mode, though I don’t know why.

Instead, I recommend you install Sonos Voice Control - it can activate and deactivate both Night Sound and Speech Enhancement without issue, and can run on the same speaker(s) as Alexa, and at the same time.

Set up Sonos Voice Control

We will continue to investigate as things do not entirely seem correct.

Thanks again for flagging!

I hope this helps.

Thank you Corry. This unfortunately does not achieve what I am trying to accomplish. I wish to create a daily automated routine for night sound to enable and disable without any human intervention.

The Alexa app allows for the creation of routines to accomplish this however it is only capable of turning night sound on, and for some reason, unable to turn night sound off.

Please keep me posted as to whether we can expect to see this addressed in a near future update. It would also be helpful to understand where this would sit on the list of priorities on the dev teams roadmap.

Hi @Guyo

My apologies - I forgot about the routines aspect when posting my second reply.

Please keep me posted as to whether we can expect to see this addressed in a near future update. It would also be helpful to understand where this would sit on the list of priorities on the dev teams roadmap.

Sorry - an estimate is not possible, and I am fairly sure that this particular issue will sit pretty far down on any list of priorities. It simply has not been mentioned by anyone else (as far as I am aware), and I think things have been as they currently are for quite a while, which together combine to what I am afraid simply cannot be considered a high priority.

There have been feature requests for having the option to set Night Sound according to a schedule - if this happened, there would be no need for a routine. I don’t know if this is being planned or not.

I hope this helps.

I appreciate your candour, Corry.

If it helps, I have come across many posts on other forums like Reddit where this seems to have been a sore spot for many for a few years now. I can provide links of those to you if this helps legitimize the demand for this request. Sadly many don’t go through the additional steps to report directly on the Sonos forums and try to live with it, that in some cases leads to them moving away from the Sonos brand.

Hi @Guyo

I should add that if a developer comes across the issue ticket and thinks “I know how to fix that easily”, it may simply get done, regardless of priority - I just don’t know.

Honestly, it tends to be the number of support cases (created by contacting support) relating to an issue that changes it’s priority - social media only does so in extreme cases, and it is often mirrored across platforms in those cases anyway.

That makes sense. Hopefully 1:1 control between the Alexa app and Sonos app can be achieved to maintain a consistent user experience with these features.
