Does the Era 100 have Alexa built in ? I’d like to have one in my kitchen for music but also use it for setting timers and reminders ? I can’t seem to find a definitive answer, thank you 

Yes, Era 100 has Alexa capability.

The answer is Yes and No!  As ​@Mr. T states, the Era 100 does have Alexa voice control, however it is an Alexa enabled device, which doesn’t have the full range of Alexa functionality included within an Amazon Alexa device.  Please see: https://support.sonos.com/en-gb/article/control-sonos-with-amazon-alexa

Thank you, the article isn’t clear on exactly what can’t be done but if I’m reading it right I won’t be able to say ‘Alexa count down 10 minutes’ when I’m cooking, am I reading it right ?

Incorrect. You can set timers and reminders using Alexa on a Sonos device, which is the functionality you mentioned in your original post.

No, timers work fine ‘Alexa, set 10 second timer’, it’s more the Drop In type functionality that doesn’t. (When one Alexa device creates an internal intercom with another Alexa device.)
