I’ve connected Alexa and Alexa speaks through my Beam. Yet when I ask Alexa to play my music it says I need to connect.

Try removing and reinstalling the Sonos Skill in the Amazon Alexa App. Check that your chosen (paid) music subscription service is set as the default service in the Alexa App and that the same service/login credentials are installed in the Sonos App, if necessary reauthorise that music service in both Apps.
Note free services like Spotify (free version) do not work with Sonos - it needs to be an active subscription service.
