I’ve have read in some topics about how some devices index local libraries differently.  Would it be possible to allow the user to choose which device is the one that executes the index. ( Associated Product ).  This morning I used the old S1 app to check which device was the “Associated Product”.  Within a half hour or so it changed from the Arc to the Port.  Guess it can’t decide which one is best to perform an index.

I’d like to be able to look at a list of individual devices and check a box that would assign a device as the “Associated Product”.

If the controller platform went to sleep it would renegotiate with the system. If the controller had moved to a different WiFi region, another player might be the better choice or responded sooner to a “who’s there”.

I don't recall seeing any details but do remember some discussion of Sonos picking a more capable device to do the indexing when it is requested while associated with a less capable one.

My Arc & Port are having a boxing match.  May the best device win.

You could just unplug one to force the work onto the other, and once the process is done. Slightly cumbersome, though.

I suppose either one would do the job well.  I did have an incident, maybe a couple months ago, where a new ERA 300 refused to take the indexed library that all the other devices had.  I guess, for some reason, the “Associated Product” was unable to pass the index data to the 300.  I did try the suggestion to change the share path to the NAS IP Address.  That made no difference.  Someone also suggested I start some music from the indexed library then add the 300.  It was suggested that the 300 would then have the index info.  Never got to try that as the 300 was sent back to Amazon.

My thought was if I could have chosen the ERA 300 in the app and then assigned it as the “ Associated Product” maybe the index could have taken place and the 300 would then share the index info with the rest of the system.  Not sure this would have worked though.  I know unplugging everything but the 300 may have accomplished the same thing, but I should not have to do something so user-unfriendly.
