Many have commented that after making changes to their network that their Sonos system is not working properly. Issues range from speakers not being recognized in the Sonos app and/or drop-outs. Some of the more common network maintenance/changes are:

  • Replacing/upgrading a router
  • Moving from a single router to a Mesh Network setup
  • Changing Internet Service Provider (ISP)
  • Moving to a new dwelling with network hardware you own *

Those projects need not be an unpleasant experience as it relates to Sonos. Here are tips that can keep a Sonos smile 😊 on your face and avoid frustration. First…

  1. Unplug all Sonos components
  2. Do not factory reset any Sonos components
  3. Do not change the SSID and Password for your network **

If changing your ISP and using their hardware insist that they assist you to change their proprietary SSID and Password to the one’s you were using before.

  1. Setup your network (completely) before doing anything with Sonos

If moving from a single router to a Mesh network (main router and satellites) make sure to configure it properly so that none of the satellites have DHCP capability to create/assign IP Addresses. Only the Main router should have DHCP functionality. ***

  1. Check for updates to your device (install if available)
  2. Make sure your device connects to your network using the same SSID and Password as before
  3. Delete the Sonos App from your device

Now you can Plug-in your Sonos components and let each come back. Wait seven (7) minutes after plugging in the last Sonos component before proceeding to the next step.

  1. Re-install the Sonos app
  2. Open the Sonos app
  3. Select “Join an existing system”
  4. Sign-in with your Sonos credentials

Everything Sonos should be as it was before including voice assistants. Enjoy your Sonos!
