Connecting Wirelessly to UniFi VLAN IOT

I am having difficulty setting up my newly upgraded home network (UniFi) to properly use Sonos.

Currently my Sonos devices are connected to my “secure” network, which (I’ve been told) is not very wise.

My desire is to have all of my Sonos devices connect to my network wirelessly via a UniFi VLAN for IOT, which does not have access to any devices on my “secure” network.

I have two UniFi WiFi Access Points in my home.
I have several Sonos devices in my home.

  1. I have two Sonos Connects which I use to stream music to two personal stereo systems.  

Currently, my two Sonos Connects are hard-wired to my home network, but they are each in the same room where my WiFi Access Points are located for future configuration.

  1. I have 1 pair of Sonos Play:5 speakers connected to my network wirelessly
  1. I have 2 pair of Sonos Play:1 speakers connected to my network wirelessly

I have attempted to set up my two Sonos Connect devices wirelessly but am experiencing problems getting all of my Sonos devices to work consistently.

Looking for some direction.

Good luck with that - lots of posts of the pain of attempting inter-VLAN support.

Why is it “not wise” to put your Sonos devices on your “secure” network, exactly?

Your phone is a much higher security risk, just put that on the same VLAN as your Sonos gear.

    I would not recommend moving your speakers from your secure VLAN to your IoT VLAN, especially if you are new to advanced networking.

    I am not trying to discourage you from learning, but it is such a headache having to diagnose connection issues that can be caused by updates that Ubiquiti does on a regular basis.

    I use Ubiquiti for my home network and have my speakers on the same VLAN as my safe devices.

      You might look at the "disable Sonosnet" S2 option, NOT "disable Wifi" as that may make your system easier to set up.

      Sonosnet is not needed as you can either wire to Ethernet or connect to your Wi-Fi instead. 

      Many topics on the options and Ubiquity Unifi here worth reading if you want a complicated network.

       

      Related, you might want to look at the security risks of every client you are considering for your special LAN, Sonos is way down that list, your phone and Windows not so far down. Don't be my old neighbor that put bars on his windows and reinforced his entry doors but depended on a stick in the slider to secure his sliding door.
