I found a Playbase with a broken Wi-Fi module on eBay for cheap. The seller says it still works fine over Ethernet.

Unfortunately, my Wi-Fi router is in a different room and I don’t have any access points to extend the signal. However, I have a Play:3 located near where the Playbase would go. Would it be possible to daisy-chain the Playbase to the Play:3 via Ethernet so it can join my system?

Thanks in advance!

Unlikely. Although I’d need a test to be sure. ;)

On the other hand, the PLAYBASE only needs to be connected at two times. The first is when updating the firmware, of course (at installation), which can be done while temporarily wired. I still have a 50 foot Ethernet cable in my ‘collection’ for exactly that type of need. The second is if you want to / need to stream music to it. If not, it should work just fine while connected to the optical port on your TV (it does have one? Newer TVs have dropped that access port, at least some of them). And of course the Sonos adapter goes one way, from optical to ARC, and not the reverse way.

I can’t advise you to purchase this, though. I’m a bit leery of a device that is in process of failing. If one system/electronics is failing, how long before the next failure?

Hi @chewbacca2607

Welcome to the Sonos Community!

Would it be possible to daisy-chain the Playbase to the Play:3 via Ethernet so it can join my system?

Yes, but it would only work if there were a third Sonos device somewhere that is wired to Ethernet and broadcasting SonosNet for the Play:3 to pick up.

It is not a supported setup, however.  And, this would not work with WiFi at all.

I hope this helps.
