What current speaker(s) compatible with play:1, play:3 and Playbar

Hi,

I have play:1’s, a play:3 and Playbar.

I have the Sonos S1 app controller for these.

I wish to add another speaker but can no longer buy play:1’s as they are discontinued.

If I buy the Era 100 Sl or Era 100 can I add these to my existing set up (ie will they all be compatible with each other [the old and new ] and which app will I be able to use to control them all - the Sonos S1 app or the Sonos app?

thanks in advance

No current speakers are compatible with S1.  If you upgraded to S2, all current speakers can be in the same system as the units you have, meaning they can be grouped together.  No current speakers can be used as surrounds with a Playbar.

I’d certainly be interested if you find any discrepancies. AirPlay 2 is hardware related, not software related. I suspect Sonos Support would be interested as well.

There are one or two things that I can’t get to work.

  1. YouTube - can only get it to play via the play:5 using AirPlay 2 Even though I have the speakers grouped.
    2. Radio stations. I used to be able to play Radio 6 (a French dance music station) but not able to play. The stations logo is displayed but no sound.
  1. selecting “everywhere” does not select all speakers - have to manually select at least one and add.

  1. Not enough information, unfortunately. Which version / generation of PLAY:5? First gen wasn’t AirPlay 2 capable. Second generation was, as is the Sonos Five. But as far as I’m aware, all generations, given a correct YouTube account, will play in the Sonos app…just not when using video.
  2. Which French radio stations? How were you playing them? Were you using a Sonos controller player, or AirPlay 2? If AirPlay 2, what speaker was the AirPlay 2 target?
  3. Not sure this makes sense to me at all, can’t think of any reason, if all devices are upgraded to S2, for this to fail. Have you called Sonos Support to discuss it?

Given that you’ve updated some/all devices, have you reset your network? Might not be a bad thing to unplug all Sonos devices from power, then reboot your router. Wait two minutes, then plug in your Sonos. Amongst many positives, you’d certainly get refreshed OS on all things. And it can’t hurt, either.

Since he’s no over to S2 completely, I do not expect OP to use Play 5 (Gen 1)’s.
