Hello. I've always used traditional passive speakers with an integrated amplifier, but recently, I've become fascinated by wireless speakers. While browsing online, I was drawn to the Sonos Five, and I'm considering purchasing a pair. However, today I came across numerous negative reviews about the Sonos app for Android, citing issues such as connectivity problems, volume control malfunctions, and more. For me, these issues would be unacceptable in a wireless speaker. I’ve read that some of these problems have been fixed, but when spending over 1000 euros on a pair of Fives, I expect a stable connection and a fully functional Android app. What’s the situation like in 2025 according to your experience?

Still glitches and bugs but slowly improving. They are prioritizing the worst ones first.

My system is fully usable today.

I just added several new speakers to my collection.

Do you have access to Atmos music? If you do you might consider a pair of Era-300s instead of the Fives that don’t support Atmos. I have a pair of 300s here in my office and I really like the Atmos sound, big step up from stereo HD.

The performance of the app varies from user to user. I personally think that it has improved but I still see issues with slow response and the dreaded “missing” system.

The reality is that it may work for you without any issues, but…

BTW if you are considering Sonos you might want to look at the ERA 300s. I don’t own these but a lot of people rave about them.

Remember, if you do find that the app is not good for you, you should be able to return the speakers for a refund.

Thank you for your responses. I have a gift card to use in a physical store, so I don’t think returning the product is an option due to the app-related issues. I understand that Sonos is working on fixing the major problems, but I’m hesitant to take the risk of struggling with music playback or dealing with connection and pairing issues

Usually you can return something purchased with a gift card and they will either restore your card’s balance or issue a new card with the refund on it. Check with your dealet to see what they offer.
