Sonos 5

I am planning to buy a Sonos 5 and am going to use it dedicatedly for music.

However, my concern is about its reliability in terms of hardware and software.

I have read several reviews where people complained that the Sonos 5 stopped working abruptly within 6 months or 1 year, and after that there was no resolution. Now those speakers are just like heavy paperweights.

And this is not just one person writing this; there are several comments from multiple customers reporting such issues.

If someone is spending such a big amount of money, at least they expect the product to last for years.

Hence, need genuine suggestions before buying a Sonos 5.

Not seen any trend regarding the Sonos Five. I had my old Play 5 gen 1 fail after just over two years and was offered a very good deal on the 2nd Gen which i was happy about. The latest Five is S2 compatible and a recent generation model so should have plenty of life in it and take new features as they arrive.

There’s always the exceptions but in general I’d consider Sonos support to be good. After all this forum is not inundated with such issues.

The common theme here is connectivity issues, normally resolved by Sonos or advice from forum members.

There was an apparent issue with the Play:5 Gen 2 having some sort of radio problem.  However the Play:5 Gen 2 was last manufactured in 2020.

I personally have a pair of Fives for a few years and they have been 100% reliable.

I've too have had two Fives since they were released (2020) and, if it is not tempting fate, they have been 100% reliable as well...

Traded off my Play 5 gen 1s, still using my Play 5 gen2, haven't the need for a Five but I wouldn't hesitate to buy one.

The option of purchasing an extended warranty is available. For me that would have been wasted money as nothing broke.
