I am on the fence about getting a Sonos system. I’ve read reviews where users are having speakers disconnect from the system, they are not found, or random volume control issues.
Is this still happening, as of July 2025?

Things keep improving after the Sonos new App disaster, most stuff is working for most people.
Connectivity has always been an issue with Sonos as they use functions of your local networks that other devices might not and do put a good bit of stress on the system's ability to pass the needed data. In almost every case a few tweaks will set things right.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy Sonos or buy more, I recently did, as the sound and convience Sonos offers are worth it to me.
The thing to remember is that the vast majority of users will post when they’re having issues, it is pretty rare for someone whose system is working fine to post about that. Lots of people in the past have suggested that this forum is like a hospital. If you look around, you could assume everyone is sick, but that isn’t the case.
I’ve used a pair of PLAYBARs for a long time, now use a pair of Arcs. Both connected to Gen 2 Subs, and the Arcs are bonded to Era 100 in one room, Era 300s in the other. I’ve never had an issue with either system…other than when the TV set wasn’t sending the appropriate signal. Making certain that all devices are up to date is a good practice. Checking what the TV sends helped, especially when Vizio decided to update their firmware and turn off Dolby Digital outputs by mistake, which just required going back into the TV’s settings to readjust it. But that was years and years ago.

That’s good to hear. Thanks.

The hospital analogy makes sense, as does the likelihood of giving a complaint much faster than praise.
From my BestBuy trip, listening sessions, they sound great, just hoping for simplicity, without having to mess with them all the time.
Fair warning, based on personal experience….not all Best Buy folks understand what they’re attempting to sell you. Some do, most don’t. Feel free to ask questions here, or ask Sonos sales. The level of FUD here tends to be fairly low, and corrected quickly.
If purchasing from Best Buy be careful what you are sold, make sure all are the latest versions and are new, not repackaged returns. Been a while since I shopped there as I was sold old gear that had been left to suffer heat damage in a shipping container sitting outside in the summer Phoenix sun.
Sonos support were wonderful, made everything right after initially refusing me warranty support because my "new to me" Sonos was all well over a year since it was manufacturered. They were not happy to see the receipts from Best Buy documenting my side of the story, but they stepped up100%.
However, I’ve been fairly lucky with ‘open box’ purchases there, but I knew what I was doing, and always factory reset the devices purchased before attempting to install them. No clue how far they’d gone in setup with the previous user.

Normally, I don’t even talk to them. Listening to anything at Best Buy is a challenge under the best conditions and there’s usually people blasting music, and 75% of the time, it’s the people working there (at least in NY). The refurbished sale that Sonos has going on right now seems like a great deal.

Yes… it’s still happening… more than it should. Have you seen the continuous issues posted in the Sonos fb groups?
I don’t have issues but I don’t use the Sonos app anymore.. but use other apps that work excellent.

Thanks I’ll take a look. My Roku sound bar, that I’ve had basically had , since it came out, has been rock solid, connection wise. The surrounds connect with no issues whatsoever and they stay connected. That’s what I’m looking for. Just with an upgrade and sound quality
Much like my Sonos system.

For what it’s worth: my system is 5 rooms- 1x home theatre setup, 2x stereo pairs, 2x single speakers. My system is reliable and stable.
If you do take the plunge into Sonos, and then find some issues, it is usually (but not always) a network issue. If so, there are some helpful folk on these forums that can advise you.
Buy some and find out. If you have issues, take them back.
If you are still on the fence, I suggest a Move 2:

Yeah same on Reddit …. a constant stream of issues and pissed off owners. IME they still have lots to do with the app, the web interface and network reliability.
It does seem to mee, these problems hit older speakers more than newer speakers.
And the user's wifi set up can play a part in this too.
