If I understand everything correctly I can connect my Beam with a Connect:Amp. Does it matter if this Connect:Amp is gen 1 or gen 2?

I use the Beam via my TV (HDMI ARC) if that would matter.

If you are currently running S2 it will matter whether the C:A is gen 1 or gen 2, because a gen 1 Connect:Amp cannot be added to an S2 system.

You mean as surround speakers, as in the setting up Amp or CONNECT:AMP as surround speakers FAQ? Or do you mean grouped, rather than surround speakers? If so, just be aware that there is a slight delay between the TV input in your Beam, and grouped rooms (not surrounds). That delay is not there when playing music.
