I have a Sonos Port and Sonos Five on the way and am hoping to use them along with my existing turntable (has its own pre-amp) and also my existing amp/speaker setup.
Ideally I want to either use the turntable with the Port/Five combo OR with my existing amp/speaker set up. The turntable has an RCA cable coming out of it with a stereo pair of male plugs at the end. So I would need some sort of splitter so I can divert these outputs to both the Port/existing amp.
However I am a little confused about how to achieve this. I see you can get a switch box which gives you two outputs and you then need to switch between them. I guess this would work ok, but this requires you to manually press the button to choose your output every time, whereas I would prefer the signal always went to both the Port and the existing amp.
There may be basic cable splitters which do this, but then I would be concerned about loss of signal.
How do others split the signal in this sort of setup?
well if you just hook turntable to your existing amp and the port to the amp you will be able to play music thru all your Sonos products.that is what the port does its like a hub if you think about it. Good Luck.
Oh, so if the turntable is connected direct to the existing amp, how would the turntable output end up on the Sonos Five in that case? Would I need to connect an output on the amp back into the Port?

The Port is all you need to accomplish what you are thinking about. Since the Port has both inputs and outputs, it will sit as the bridge between the Sonos speakers and your existing amp
The Port’s inputs can be connected to a line output on the amp. This will be used to send audio from the amp to the Five. When using your turntable keep it connected to your amp.
The Port’s outputs can then be connected to an input on the amp, so that music services played from the Sonos app can then be heard through the amp and its connected speakers.
Ok, so my amp (Marantz PM6007) has an RCA ‘Pre-Output’, which I suppose is the raw signal it receives from the source. I guess this is what I would then connect to the Port.
Back to your original question, a simple pair of RCA "Y" cables will split the turntable's preamp output. The output is low impedance and the inputs are high so there will be no loading issues with a single split.
Note that this should work with the OR situation, but not the AND situation. That would require the input be to the Sonos directly (preamped), and then the output from the Sonos to your amplifier. Which is how the Sonos Port is designed to work, honestly. Like a tape deck. The issue you’re dealing with is the 75ms delay for analog line ins…the only way to get both sets of speakers in sync is to get the music processed by Sonos first, then distributed to both sets of speakers.

If not, I recommend that you connect the turntable to PORT’s Line-In and connect Line-Out to a MARANTZ input other than Phono. You will have the ability to play the turntable anywhere and the ability to play online music services through the MARANTZ.

The good news is that the Port has now arrived and progress has been made.
I have now set it up and got it mainly all working, thanks to the advice here. So I have my Port output plugged in to a line-in on the existing amp, and then the ‘Pre-out’ on my amp is connected to the line-in on the Port. The turntable is still plugged into the existing amp.
So far so good. The only gotcha is that in order to stream my turntable to my Five, I need to have the amp turned on and the source set to the turntable. This allows me to select the Port as the source for the Five, but also means that the turntable audio also comes out of the existing speakers, so I have to mute the amp as it is totally out of sync.

I think I may end up doing this, as it is mainly the turntable I want to listen to elsewhere. It should avoid the ‘double audio’ issue when using the turntable, as per my previous post.
There is a 75ms time offset between Line-In and Line-Out. All of the SONOS players will be time aligned with Line-Out.
I would connect the turntable to the phono in on the PM6007. Then connect line out of the Port to Recorder input on the PM6007 and Recorder audio out on PM6007 to line in on the Port. This route you will be able to play all Sonos source on the Marantz and share the turntable and other devices connected to the Marantz over Sonos.

This works, but the downside is that if playing the turntable or CD player through Sonos, you need to turn on the Marantz, select the correct source, and turn the volume right down to prevent out of sync audio coming out of the passive speakers.
Keep your settings and connections as they are BUT switch the Marantz to tape-monitor so it is playing the sound co ing from the Port.
There was no indication in the PM6007 manual that a Tape Monitor function is offered. Since tape decks are a faded technology, the Tape Monitor function is not supported on many current amplifiers.
There is a ‘Recorder’ Input on the amp, , but not really clear from the manual what the point of the ‘Recorder In’ input is. It seems to work the same as all the other inputs on the amp.
