Question

Sonos Ace connecting to sonos speakers

I currently have a turntable connected via line in to a Sonos 5 speaker, which then connects on WiFi to my other Sonos speakers (play ones and a roam) around the house. I was hoping I’d be able to link in and listen to vinyls from my turntable on the new Sonos Ace headphones, but it appears that they are going to be Bluetooth only and not able to connect via WiFi. Is there a way I’ll be able to make this work at all?

I have a 1Mii B03 Pro Bluetooth RX/TX and have it operating as a BT transmitter from the line out of a Sonos Port. It will output any Sonos source including a Turntable line-in to any Bluetooth Headphones.. so that’s my way of sorting playing Sonos sources over Bluetooth to headphones… The Wife and I currently use Sony, but plan to add the Sonos Ace to our collection.

Thank you 👍. Just out of interest - does it have decent range distance wise from the speaker?

And just looking - my Sonos 5 doesn’t appear to have a line out option?

No you need a Sonos Port. The 1Mii B03 Pro is a long range transmitter and covers a range upto 265 feet (80 metres) in line of sight or about half that in doors/through walls - here’s a link I picked randomly from Amazon…

Ace headphones can connect/bond to a Sonos Arc, and from there you can flip a switch on Ace to have what’s playing on the Arc on your headphones instead.  This works for TV audio, but I have not seen confirmation that this works for any audio source that the Arc can play.

Of course, getting Ace + Arc in order to listen to just listen to vinyl music doesn’t make any sense.  Using bluetooth with Ace, or any other headphones, as Ken suggested is a better option.

Edit: Sonos has stated that Ace will eventually work with the other soundbars, Ray, Beam, and Beam Gen 2.

Sorry - I’m not brilliant at these things, so just trying to get my head round it! So if I had a Sonos Port and the transmitter how would my set up work? Would the ‘line in’ that currently goes from my turntable to my Sonos 5 go into the Sonos port instead or still into the 5? Really appreciate your help.

The Sonos ’Port’ has both a line-in (for your Turntable) and a line-out (for your Bluetooth Transmitter). See attached image.

The line-in audio can play on the line-out and you can listen to it on your Bluetooth headset. You can also play the line-in on Any/Every other Sonos product by selecting it as an audio source in the ‘Your Sources’ area of the new Sonos App. You can also group the ‘Port’ with your other Sonos ‘Rooms’ too.

Hope that helps to perhaps clear the mist.

Thanks - that’s great. Sounds like this is definitely going to be my solution, just that it will involve more outlay than expected to buy the Bluetooth thingy and the Sonos port. When I heard that headphones were on the way I’d assumed / hoped they’d be able to just link in to my existing Sonos system of the 5 and play ones…

If you can play your turntable to the Fives line-in, do you really need the audio playing at the same time to your headphones anyway, or vice versa for that matter… you could just use an RCA switch and switch the TT line-level output to play on a Bluetooth Transmitter - it would be a cheaper option to get the TT audio onto any Bluetooth headset. I’d look at your needs objectively first before making a purchase decision, particularly if the focus is just to get TT audio onto Bluetooth headphones.

Ah - need to work what that means! Cos yep, basically I’m looking for the most straightforward and cost effective way to be able to listen to my vinyl around the house on wireless / Bluetooth headphones… With decent sound quality / connection etc.

Hi again Ken Griffiths, just wondering how my set up would work with the cheaper option you’ve suggested - would it just be a case of the cable that currently links my turntable to my Sonos 5 going into the RCA switch instead, and then having a line out to something like the 1Mii B03 Pro Bluetooth thingy to get the sound to Bluetooth headphones?

What outputs does your turntable have (what make is it)?

If all you want is turntable to headphones, then forget Sonos, there are neater and probably cheaper alternatives.

What is your turntable?

What a shame that the earphones I’ve been waiting for for many years won’t be integrated into the Sonos wireless network.  Are there any plans to integrate the earphones rather than the need to resort to Bluetooth?

I read the headphones can play via wifi using the Arc as a source. I've not read if this is only possible when the Arc does TV-sound. Would this also be possible if the Arc is grouped with a Port (or other speaker with an analogue connection)?

OP, just wanted to chime in here and say that I was hoping for the same functionality from these headphones. I currently have a Fluance RT85 turntable hooked up to my Play5’s using the Fluance PA10 preamp. I’m able to use the line out on my preamp to hook up a Bluetooth transmitter that I’m able to use with my bluetooth headphones.

If you’re using an external preamp I’m guessing that would have a line out you could use as well for a bluetooth transmitter.

That would certainly save you from having to buy a Sonos Port.

Here’s the transmitter I have:

hello all.

first, i really love the headphones so far. the integration with the arc by just pushing the button is pretty amazing, now i don’t need different headphones for TV, ps5, switch, etc. and that is very convenient. plus they sound great and feel like you are wearing a cloud.

i’m not going to lie though, i am very dissapointed they lack this functionality. i too have a turntable connected via line-in to my beastie boys play5, and being able to use them with this configuration is something i was really looking forward too. i understood that any sound coming through the soundbar could be transferred to the headphones. i’m sure it’s much more complicated that what i think in my mind but this seems like an obvious feature that would be fairly easy to integrate given what they can already do.

alas, that sucks. i hope they give them this feature at some point.

Hi all,

Just for info. For a while I am running Sonos Ace from a Sonos Port with its digital coax connected to HDT800 transmitter from Advance Paris. Sofar a very convenient setup to have the Ace integrated in the Sonos system, and to listen to my local flac music library. I realize that I was lucky to already own a port.
