Is it permitted to post about 3rd party/DIY solutions, or will those automatically be removed by Sonos/moderators?

Just wanted to say “hello” to the group.

I’ve been a longtime Sonos fan but unlike a lot of people, I only just discovered my love of vinyl over the last few years. The collaboration between Sonos and Pro-Ject was my gateway and I’ve been slowly learning more and building my collection.

For me there’s romanticism with physically holding LPs in your hands and sitting comfortably while listening to the music, something that CDs never really gave me. I’ve also found joy in the artistry of the covers and in the vinyl itself.

Using Sonos with a turntable just makes sense to me as I am heavily invested in Sonos products.

Hi,

I have had a Sonos set up with my turntable for a number of years now and have found it to be a great solution. My current set up is a Technics SL-1500C connected to a single Five (soon to be upgraded to a stereo pair). The 1500C has a built in preamp which makes life easier and gets rid of the need for another piece of hardware. The Five simply plugs into the back of the turntable and away I go.

One thing I do want to get out of the way is to say that this is not an audiophile set up - but it doesn’t claim to be. If you look for opinions on playing vinyl via Sonos, you will find lots of people talking about how it’s pointless doing it as your converting analogue sound to digital. If that really bothers you, then maybe look for a different set up but I’m not overly concerned by that. Vinyl sounds great on my system and, as most of my records are originals from the 60’s and 70’s, all the crackles are still there to let you know that it’s a record you’re playing and not an mp3. You can also tweak the settings in the Sonos app (mainly turning compression off) to help you get a more authentic sound.

Bottom line is that I really recommend integrating a turntable into a Sonos set up. The sound is great, it’s easy to use and the whole set up becomes really versatile.

I've had my Sonos setup with a turntable for several years now, and it has proven to be an excellent solution for enjoying my vinyl collection. Currently, I'm using a Technics SL-1500C connected to a single Sonos Five (soon to be upgraded to a stereo pair). The convenience of the SL-1500C's built-in preamp has made the setup hassle-free, eliminating the need for additional hardware. The Sonos Five seamlessly plugs into the back of the turntable, creating a straightforward and enjoyable experience.

It's worth noting that my setup may not be classified as an audiophile's dream, but it doesn't claim to be. While some discussions suggest that playing vinyl through Sonos involves converting analogue sound to digital, it's important to consider your personal preferences. In my experience, the vinyl sounds fantastic on my system. Being a collector of original records from the 60s and 70s, the nostalgic crackles and pops are still present, reaffirming the authenticity of the vinyl experience. For those who are particular about sound adjustments, the Sonos app provides settings customization, allowing you to fine-tune your preferences, including turning off compression for a more authentic sound.

In conclusion, I highly recommend integrating a turntable into a Sonos setup. The sound quality is impressive, the system is user-friendly, and the versatility it adds to the entire setup enhances the overall listening experience.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about my setup or need further recommendations.

Best regards,
