Hi everyone. We have a Audio-Technica AT-LP3WH turntable hooked up to vertically paired Sonos 5s that we just purchased.  We are only able to get sound from the left speaker.

I searched the forums for suggestions and have done the following:

  1. Set the sound to compressed.
  2. Set the delay to max.
  3. Tried unpairing/repairing the speakers.
  4. Tried a different cable
  5. Tried plugging in the 3.5 cable to the right speaker.
  6. Verified that the cables are secure (note, if the 3.5 is not in all the way I just get sound from the right speaker).
  7. We played music via our phones connected to the 5 on the left and it played on both speakers.

In all cases with the turntable we just get sound from the left.  I contacted Sonos and the technician was also unable to resolve the issue. He did have me remove the stereo pair and we were able to play it on both speakers but not when they were put back as a stereo pair. I also hooked it up to our older Play:5 and then tried to have it played on the paired 5s.  In that case, we still just had sound from the left.

Is it possible that our turntable simply won’t “play well” with Sonos?  Any other ideas on what I can try?

If this unit won’t work, would the Sony PSLX310BT be a good candidate to consider? We are trying to keep the turntable budget under $300.

Thank you!

Charles

It’s a connection issue. Possibilities are:

3.5mm not fully inserted into PLAY:5 jack

bad RCA —> 3.5mm

connection issue inside the turntable

Thank you. We are going to test another turntable tomorrow to see if it has the same issue. I will reply back.

I did verify that the 3.5 is fully in the 5.

Does sound like a connection issue as per @buzz If your connecting cable plugs into the turntable trying swapping the plugs around and see what happens.

An unlikely possibility is that a cable has become detached from the cartridge.

When the 3.5mm is fully inserted into the PLAY:5’s jack, none of the shaft will be visible.
