Issue connecting Pro-Ject T1 Phono with Arc/One

Hi community,

After investigating my setup in other threads I still have some questions to get my Pro-ject turntables to work with my Sonos set…

I currently have an Arc connected with 2 Sonos One as surround. My turntable is close to the Arc. I know none of these Sonos products has a compatible connector, but when I even try to use a connector AV to HDMI and connect the turntable (with a pre amp included, model T1 Evo Phono), it doesn’t work. Apart from the connector itself, is the Arc unable to retrieve and carry that signal for compatibility reasons?

I thought about changing one or both of the One for Era 100 but I read somewhere that the Line In cannot be used if the actual setup is surround with the Arc, is that right?

Does that mean the only option here is to buy a Port? For that price, I’d review my entire setup as it costs more than the turntable…

Thank you!

Hi there

I’m not entirely sure about the ability to connect a ProJect T1 to an ARC, but I know for sure that I cannot do it with my RAY soundbar as it needs a line in which it doesn’t have.

I have two ERA100’s as a stereo pair and have my T1 connected to the line in of one of them, which allows me to play to the stereo pair and then group the RAY into the same to give a full room set up with my RAY to listen to the T1 or stream via SONOS app.

You cannot use Line in on ERA100’s when set up as a surround sound system with a sound bar as it over rides that function. Obviously, you can reconfigure each time you want to change from surround sound to music streaming by removing the surround setup in the app and going to a stereo pair or similar, but it is a bit of a faff.

You can group the ERA100’s as a stereo pair with the RAY for TV audio playback, but there is a delay to the ERA 100’s which either makes it very echo or if you set a delay on the RAY you lose lip sync on the TV images.

I set up the ERA100’s as a surround sound set and to be honest was a little disappointed with the set up with the RAY as the ERA100’s have a superb sound which really is not best used as surround sound speakers. I personally didn’t want the surround set up anyway and the RAY is huge improvement over the standard TV speakers, so I’m very happy using the arrangement I now have.

I looked at the PORT option, which would have worked, but I’m not sure if it will allow the T1 to playback via a surround setup. I’ll leave those with more knowledge to comment on that. For me, I have my T1 pretty much next to one of my ERA100’s, so didn’t need anything else other than the line in connector.

Hope that helps and good luck getting a resolution.

The Sonos Arc needs an HDMI-ARC signal (different pins on the HDMi connector). Does you connector provide this?

Cheapest Sonos option would be to buy one Era 100 with the Sonos USB-C adapter. Repealing the One’s by Era’s would not work because ether lose the possibility to connect when used as surrounds.
