connecting a turntable

hi all, i have a sonos system, sub gen 3, 8 x play 1’s, arc  which i have had for years all working fine no probs. i also have a technics 1210 turntable ( old skool ) which i want to connect to my system. someone told me i need a speaker with an aux input, so i went and purchased a era 100,connected the rca leads to rca-3.5mm jack convertor, then the 3.5mm jack to usb-c to plug into the era 100,that did not work, and then i was told i would need a preamp between the turntable and the speaker, i then took the speaker back, but want to connect my turntable to my sonos system. do i need to purchase the sonos amp?

it will not be connected to anything else; ie: wired speakers or another amp.

i just want my turntable to be able to work with my existing sonos speakers.  thanks in advance.

Anything with a Line-In will work, including the Era 100 w/ the special Sonos adapter.  Note:  Generic 3.5mm to USB-C adapters are digital in to analog out; only the Sonos adapter is analog in to digital out, which is why a generic adapter will not work.

You also need a phono pre-amp, either built-in to the turntable, or external if the turntable doesn’t have one.

Hey @kelboy . I have a sonos in every room, and all 4 tv’s plus 2 rooms with Bose in-wall speakers. I have a turntable in my office hooked into a play 5, ,that in turn distributes the sound to the entire home. The turntable ia an Audio-Technnica AP-LT60XBT. The Sonos Play 5 connects to it by Analog out 3.5mm Aux jack.

@kelboy No pre-amp, turntable to play 5 with Aux cord only

...but it may be less $$$ to buy this one….https://www.audio-technica.com/en-us/at-lp60xbt

You need the one sold by Sonos.  As to a pre-amp, get anything in your budget.  RIAA mastering technology has been around for almost 100 years, it’s pretty much perfected and commoditized today, and there’s nothing to gain from buying exorbitant “audiophile” pre-amps except for an empty wallet.
