Hi,

I have an existing Project turntable (with built-in phono preamp), an integrated stereo amp, a Sonos port, and external speakers and I’m after thoughts on the best way to connect them up.

I could connect the TT (using the built-in phono preamp) to the port, then connect the port to an input (CD?) on the stereo amp

or

Connect the TT (bypassing the built-in phono preamp) to the phono input on the stereo amp, and connect the Port (CD?) to another input on that amp

Would either approach produce the same sound quality, or would the DAC in the port provide a better outcome perhaps?

Would one approach be better from a user experience perspective e.g. connecting the TT to the Port and using autoplay for line-in, etc

By doing this you would not be able to get the music from the TT to play on other Sonos speakers for nothing gained in return.

TT to Port to Amp is the way to go.

An alternative, depending upon the amps connections and capabilities, would be TT to Amp,  Amp to Port input, port output to Amp. That way the turntable can play through the AMP and the Sonos system at the same time, Sonos streams can play through the Amp.  And if you have any other devices connected to the Amp they can play through the Sonos system. But only worth doing if you have other devices connected to the Amp. 

For this alternative to work well, the amp needs to have a tape/line out and monitor feature - in such cases, this is the best scheme.

I recommend connecting the turntable to PORT’s Line-In and connecting PORT’s Line-Out to any input except Phono on the amplifier. This will avoid potential time skews if SONOS speakers are near speakers driven by the amplifier.

Thanks all for the replies, I’ll have just the TT connected so it may just be best to go TT-->Port-->Amp

I might also get a power amp rather use the integrated amp so it’s useful to think through the various options available.
