Setting up a Buffalo Linkstation NAS for music library access

 

This article provides information for when your music library is unable to be added from a Buffalo Linkstation NAS drive. The following instructions will ensure your NAS drive is correctly set up to allow access to your music.

 

 

Step 1 - Check for correct SMB version (SMB2/SMB3)

  1. Within the NAS drive's interface, select File Sharing.
  2. Select the pop-out icon next to SMB.
  3. Select the Edit button.
  4. Make sure the SMB 2 only option is selected under SMB Protocol.

Step 2 - Obtain the device name of the NAS

  1. Select Management.
  2. Select the pop-out icon next to Name/Time/Language.

  3. Take note of the name of the NAS. This will be the first part of the path that will be needed to connect to the share.
    1. EXAMPLE: \\LS210DDD5

 

 

Step 3 - Obtain the share name on the NAS

  1. Select File Sharing.
  2. Select the pop-out icon next to Folder Setup.
  3. View the list of shared folders and determine which folder the music is located in.

  4. Take note of the share name. This will be the second part of the path that will be needed to connect to the share.
    1. EXAMPLE: The share name is Music and the full share path will be: \\LS210DDD5\Music

 

 

Step 4 - Check the NAS user has proper permissions to the share

  1. Select File Sharing.
  2. Select the pop-out icon next to Users.
  3. In the User List window, select the Edit button for the NAS user under Access Restrictions.
  4. Make sure the proper NAS user has the correct access to the shared folder.
    1. Both "WR" (Write/Read) and "R" (Read Only) will allow the content to be accessed.

Step 5 - Adding the share to Sonos

  1. With the information you obtained from the customer's NAS as instructed above, follow the steps on the Using a NAS drive with Sonos article add the share to Sonos.
    1. In this example the share is \\LS210DDD5\Music .
