iMac AirPlay Does Not Connect to Sonos 5

While the Sonos 5 device does show up as an available device, I always get the message “Could not connect to [Sonos Device Name]” when I attempt to use AirPlay to stream audio from my iMac (both via System Preferences and the Music app).  Strangely, my iPad and iPhone do not seem to have the problem when connected on the same WiFi network.

I run Monterey (latest version) on my iMac and, yes, already did the following:

  • reset the Sonos speaker
  • rebooted the router (TP-Link AX6000)
  • restarted the computer (multiple times)

I want to add additional Sonos speakers, but this is a little bit a showstopper.  Thanks in advance for any help.

This is quite possibly an Apple issue, a number of online sites mention problems with Monterey and Airplay. Here’s one such example with some suggested fixes:
