Forum|alt.badge.img

Hello

i have an Arc and want to connect my turntable (3.5mm jack) to arc

is there any adapter from 3.5 to AirPlay or HDMI (but in this last case I need to double HDMI port because arc is connected to my tv)

thanks

Hi @Gianky1

Here are options to send turntable audio to Sonos. A pre-amp either built-in to turntable or 3rd party outboard is required. BLUE highlights are links to product examples upon which you can spend as little or as much as you like 😉.

Turntable options with built-in pre-amp specific to your turntable:

Turntable options without built-in pre-amp specific to your turntable:

  • RCA to RCA  cable > Pre-amp > RCA to 3.5mm cable > Sonos Line-in adapter > Sonos speaker with line-in option
  • RCA to RCA cable > Pre-amp > RCA to RCA cable > Bluetooth Transmitter > Sonos Roam or Move2
  • USB-A to RCA cable > Pre-Amp > RCA to RCA cable > Bluetooth Transmitter > Sonos Roam or Move2

 * See my 1st post above for speaker options

I hope this answers your questions. Feel free to come back for more advice from me or other community members who might view your post 😊

Hi

There is no way to direct connect a turntable to an Arc. Your options are ( assuming a basic turntable and no Bluetooth capability):

Purchase an Era 100, Era 300 or Five as a dedicated speaker and group to Arc when desired.

Purchase a Port and select the Arc as the dedicated speaker (aka the Auto Play Room).

Hello

Thank you for the answer

so, if I have understood, the Era 100 has a line in (3.5) input port , or do I need the line in adapter ?

then, the Era 100 can play the turntable sound and / or stream the music to the Arc

is this correct ?

are there cheaper solutions ? (Era 100 plus adapter is around 300 euros) even if they’re third party products (eg 3.5 to AirPlay or something like )

thank you

If your tv has another hdmi port you could connect the turntable to that, but it will mean having the tv turned on with that hdmi as source when you want to play vinyl.

Edited to add: disregard this suggestion. I read USB above as HDMI! Thanks, @106rallye

Hello

thank you all , I think that, at last; the simplest solution is the ERA 100 with line in adapter

…. Or connect again my old stereo amplifier 😂😂

have a good week

@nik9669a Though the question is answered, how would you connect a turntable to HDMI?

If you go back to your stereo amplifier you can connect a Port to its RCA line-out (if available) to send Sonos audio to other Sonos speakers.

Hello

one last question

as my turntable has USB-A output port and Era 100, as I understood, has usb input port, can the two devices be conneced directly with an USB cable without using RCA and line in adapter ?

thanks

No.  The adapter is required for any audio input.

Hi

If you are determined to use the USB-A output you’ll need a cable as shown in the link to connect to the Sonos line adapter.

Question: Does your Turntable have a built-in pre-amp as that was never established? I’m thinking it does not as you may have been using the Phono input on your amplifier. Then again it may have a built-in pre-amp even though you were using the amplifier phono input if there is a switch on the turntable to by-pass the internal pre-amp.

Hello

my turntable has a switch to turn on and off preamp so no problem on this side

today I’ve found a good offer so I bought an Era 100

On order not to have problems I’ll buy the line in adapter and connect with RCA to 3.5 cable

one question: can I choose where to listen vinyls ? ( eg only ERA 100, only ARC or both)

thank you

Hi

You can start the music on the Era 100 and then group in the Arc. Select volume slider and lower the volume for the speaker you want to exclude.

Hello

bought ERA 100 and line in adapter

tested with my turntable and a new vinyl

the result is excellent , I can group ERA and Arc and turn the volume up and down to listen only era or only arc or both

only one thing I don’t understand is that Arc when grouped to era has a volume level that in my opinion, even at maximum, is lower than its normal volume (eg when listening Spotify or Sonos radio )

is that true or just my perception ?

anyway thank you all for the good suggestion, the audio quality is excellent

BR

Adjust the Line-In Source Level on the Era 100 so the volume is optimal, but not distorting.

Hi @Gianky1

Glad you are satisfied with your turntable setup!!
Try @jgatie’s suggestion for better Arc audio.

Here’s a link to a piece I wrote on properly adjusting the line level. Suggest you ungroup the Arc from the Era 100 when performing the procedure.
