Sonos (S1 on Mac and iPad) is randomly losing connection to my music library… one day it will be working fine, the next it cannot find it. The stock answer seems to be the firewall is preventing access/network or wi fi issues… but the firewall settings have not changed and everything else on the network and wifi is working perfectly. File Sharing is on, Sonos is listed as a user with full access, have tried removing the library and re-adding it. Works for a while but then randomly loses it. I removed and re-added the library about a month ago and today it cannot find it. There have been no updates to the system or software (have manually made sure that nothing is updated automatically that could cause this)… So I go through the same process, remove and re-add and it’s working fine. Anyone else having this issue?
Hi
I’m sorry to hear that your Music Library keeps disconnecting from your S1 system.
Since you’re able to connect to it intermittently, I would assume the issue lies with your network rather than with the firewall or music folder permissions. If you meet our System Requirements and don’t have anything that’s listed under ‘Unsupported network setups and devices’, then I would recommend contacting our support team with a diagnostics before and after you lose library access. They have the necessary tools available to look into your system, see what’s going wrong, and troubleshoot the issue with you.
I hope this helps!
What was it I said about stock answers… let me think…

And here we have Sonos suggesting a network issue… when I have explicitly stated that nothing on the network has changed…
If you actually look at the various forums, this is an issue that your users have been complaining about for a number of years now, both on PC and Mac. As I was busy re-adding the library (to the unchanged network) last night, I was trawling through various facebook and tech forums. BTW… having re-added the library last night, it is now working again (on the same network settings that it refused to work on yesterday).
So, what did Sonos support say, when you called in with hard data that they can look at?
So I can ensure I share what is relevant, are you also mac on S1? If you have another set up, there are multiple threads in this community, reddit and facebook dating back to around May 2024 where users are experiencing similar issues with a variety of set ups.
Unfortunately, I’m on S2. But having worked in software for most of my life, I know how hard it is to track ‘bugs’ with anecdotal data. It’s only with hard data that most programmers are successful in seeing what is going on, and fixing the issue. And if the data shows something other than a ‘bug’, that’s a good thing as well.
I do occasionally use my Mac’s to control my S2 system, but have long since moved my music to an NAS. However, the music is also stored on the Mac, and while the NAS was disconnected during construction in my home, I had no issues playing from my Mac, or even using AirPlay 2 from my iPad, using s2.
None of my Sonos devices are S1 only. I gifted the last one I had to a friend, and all others devices are S2 compliant.

I would suggest purchasing a small NAS to store your local library. For me, having my music stored on a Mac or PC would be too frustrating when you are at the whim of frequent updates from Apple or Microsoft that may break your connection to your music.
Is this a Sonos issue? It very unlikely because Sonos does not know what the others are planing.
My local music is very important to me. I would be frustrated if I could not connect to my library and listen to what I want to.
That’s why I got a Synology NAS. Enjoyed my local music even through the new app release last May.
As others have mentioned, this sounds to me like a network interference problem that has to be sorted out. It may be as simple as hardwiring your Mac to your network.
