Sonos is not bad at all. In fact, it’s been amazing in my home.

i use my local library every day with my Sonos speakers. If you are having issues listening to files from your local library and you have not tried any troubleshooting steps, I would encourage you to:

Turn off every speaker and your router/network. This would be a good time to reboot your phone as well.

Wait five minutes.

Starting with your router/network, power it back on and allow it to fully boot.

Then power up one speaker at a time.

Open the app on your phone and connect to your system.

When using plex though, Sonos is accessing your locally stored files through the plex could service.  Thus you actually can’t access your local files without using plex’s cloud service.  This is different than using the plex or plexamp app as it will access your local files directly if you are on the same network as your file store (technically, same network as your plex server), so it won’t use the cloud.

But it is also correct that Sonos can play your local files directly, without using plex.  If you really want to use plex, you could also use bluetooth if you have a speaker that supports bluetooth, or line, or TV app, etc.

I am doubtful that any Samsung speakers would operate differently.

I love the irony. If something is described as ‘bad’, it could actually mean a ‘cool good’ in modern urban slang.
